You're Not Being Ghosted, The Jobs Just Don't Exist

Why 1 in 5 job postings are fake, and what you can do about it.

Hey there,

First off, thank you for being part of FlyQuest. I genuinely don't take that lightly.

Everything you receive from us is content designed to actually help you navigate this wild job market. No fluff. No motivational nonsense. Just real stuff that works.

(Also, POPIA says I should mention: if you'd rather not hear from me, you can unsubscribe at the bottom. No hard feelings.)

Now, let's talk about why you're not a bad texter, you just have bad taste in jobs.

The job market isn't broken. It's rigged.

I've been researching why it feels so hard out there. Turns out, it's not you. It's them.

Here's what I found:

18-22% of job postings online are ghost jobs, listings companies post with zero intention of filling them. That's roughly 1 in 5 jobs you apply to that literally don't exist.

Even worse? 81% of recruiters admit their employers post ghost jobs. And 45% of HR professionals say they do it "regularly."

Why? Companies want to:

  • Look like they're growing (even when they're not)
  • Make employees think help is coming (it's not)
  • Build a "talent pipeline" for roles that might exist someday

Meanwhile, you're spending hours tailoring CVs, writing cover letters, and refreshing your inbox like it owes you money.

And at the end of the day, the only ones who lose are the candidates who were told from the start how good a chance they had, just to get an automated rejection email at the final stage. Or worse, nothing at all.

If you've been stuck in application limbo, I want you to know: you're not alone.

You're not crazy for feeling frustrated. Or angry. Both are valid.

And I hope this is a small point of hope, to know that it's not all on you. The system is genuinely stacked.

Here's my question for you:

I genuinely can't have 1-on-1s with everyone on this list (I wish I could). So I'm asking:

Would you be interested in going deeper on this?

Would you like more content on navigating the broken job market?

Topics I'd cover:

  • Why the job application process is broken right now
  • What you can do to find real jobs that actually match what you want
  • How to build applications that give you the best possible chance of getting that offer
